Texas Shakespeare Festival presents four shows in rotating repertory, so it was important to find a unique style for each.

110 in the Shade takes place over the course of a single 24 hour period. It begins just before dawn and ends just before the following dawn. An open playing area and a large painted backdrop allowed a wide range of color and angle to communicate the passage of time as well as the weather conditions.

With the entire second act happening from after dark until pre-dawn, the moon, stars, and lanterns helped to emphasize the romantic night time. The night feels warm and concealing, allowing secret rendezvous and the mind to dream beyond the mundane and ordinary.
