The piece began with an mysterious atmosphere that hinted at secret rituals deep in the woods. I used dim lighting and heavy texture to allow the dancers to move in and out of the shadows. Then, with an abrupt shift, the piece became more ritualistic and driving, shifting to brighter lights and more emphasis on form. As the piece progresses, the dark clothing is stripped away to reveal the color underneath, much like a butterfly breaking free of its cocoon.

This piece was a traditional ballet with 3 movements. The work reflected both changing seasons and the course of a single night. I based the first movement on late evening in summer so warm tones on the dancers set against the cool evening sky.

The second movement was styled after a wintery moonlit night in a statue garden.

The final movement was just after sunrise, displaying the energy and warmth of a new dawn of spring.
